“…the Grand Palais was the magnificent and sumptuous location: a triumph of Art Nouveau lights, domes and glass.
The set was just as breathtaking, a reproduction of the Versailles gardens: almost a black and white photogram of the 1961 film by Alain Renais, “Last year at Mariembad”, which Karl Lagerfeld cites as his inspiration. An 80-piece orchestra with Thomas Roussel, from the band Something à la Mode, conducting cover songs by Bjork and the Verve. In this romantic, almost oneiric atmosphere, Chanel presented a collection full of rich contrasts. Magical, airy, carefree, the label showed tailleurs with new proportions and slowing dresses in chiffon and lace decorated with feathers”.
