It seems that this last month was just perfect for ending international architectural contest and announcing who the winners are. After the “Pedestrian Footbridge Design Competition” from Istanbul…
the “Calabar international conference center” or BIG’s latest achievement on the “Waste-to-Energy Plant Competition”, it was time for another international competition to show it’s shining, new, winning project.
Teamed up in phase 2 with U.A.E.-based architecture firm Godwin Austen Johnson [GAJ] and landscape architecture firm Valley Crest Design Group, the USA based group
EHRLICH ARCHITECTS, was awarded grand prize in the international architectural competition to design the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) Federal National Council’s (FNC) New Parliament Building Complex.
The winning project merges the Arab strong art expression with modern technology and design, and by doing so, it resembles the United Arab Emirates advance towards the future, but carefully preserving the notion of the past and the heritage of its culture.
The new FNC building will be located on one of Abu Dhabi most important processional boulevards and facing the Arabian Golf, making its dome visible from hundreds of miles. The dome itself is a 100 meter diameter structure, designed in the shape of a flower, casting the shadows of its Islamic inspired ornamentations over the surrounding landscape.
